TRAVEL ALERTS, MAPS & DIRECTIONS
Be Advised: There was a massive rock slide at the Tennessee-North Carolina state line on Saturday October 24, 2009. Detours have been established.
Drivers traveling from Tennessee to western North Carolina via I-40 are advised to take one of two eastbound detours.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) recommends traveling east to North Carolina via I-81 to Johnson City, then taking I-26 to Asheville. Drivers in normal passenger vehicles can also take Highway 25-70 from Newport into North Carolina.
Visitors leaving Gatlinburg can also follow HWY 441 through Great Smoky Mountains National Park to Cherokee and take HWY 19 through Maggie Valley to access 1-40 in North Carolina.
Please Also Note: Driving to Gatlinburg? The Tennessee Department of Transportation has begun a major project along Highway 66 (which could make traffic a bear). Get more info about the road construction and utilize less-traveled and scenic routes to Gatlinburg (to ensure an enjoyable trip through the Smokies). All Day Trolley Passes!
You can now hop aboard the Gatlinburg Trolley all day long for just two dollars a day! This six-month pilot program features unlimited access to the Red, Blue, Purple and Yellow Trolley routes. The Pink (Dollywood) and Tan (National Park) routes are not included in the pilot program. The All Day Trolley Pass is now sold at all three Gatlinburg Welcome Centers as well as at City Hall and the Mass Transit Center.

The color-coded Trolley routes on the city of Gatlinburg map can get you around town for as little as fifty cents, and the trolley map of Gatlinburg also shows all the local parking lots and decks. Gatlinburg has over 17 parking lots conveniently located throughout downtown area for easy access. Just look for the blue parking labels on the City Map below. Parking fees vary based on locations. Need to rent a car? How about a Jeep? Local rental companies offer an ample selection of cars, SUV's, motorcycles, ATV's, and Scooters. They have a wide variety of vehicles to choose from such as 2 person scooters, dune buggies, and the all new 3-wheel scooter cars. Mobility Scooters are also available.
